EDSA @ 40
BAYAN USA calls on Filipinos across the country to join us in commemorating the 40th anniversary of the People Power Uprising this February 25 with unity and action. The times call on us to fight for an alternative to the U.S.-Marcos regime, which has only brought about poverty, exploitation, and repression for Filipinos at home and abroad.

Our families back home suffer from severe instability and lack of livelihood. Jobs—if they can even be secured—do not provide wages sufficient enough to put food on the table or roofs over their heads. At the same time, we are being denied the right to basic needs here in the U.S. Budget cuts to health insurance deprive countless Filipinos of critical access to medical care and force us into skyrocketing debt. In place of social services, funding has been poured into ICE, the very institution that threatens the lives of migrants who only wish to support their families.
President Marcos deludes himself if he believes he can hide his direct hand in the starvation and suffering of the Filipino people. Recent evidence clearly reveals his role as the mastermind of the corruption scandal, including pocketing and spending Php 8 billion for candidates he supported in last year’s election. Marcos enables the entire government to steal funds meant for the people, with his family taking the lion’s share. This is why Congress was so quick to dismiss impeachment complaints against him, so the rotten politicians and political dynasties infesting Philippine government can evade their own accountability.
Marcos places Filipinos in greater danger through his complete subservience to U.S. imperialism represented by the fascist Trump administration. The Philippines-U.S. Critical Minerals Pact signed on February 4 enables foreign mining corporations to destroy the natural environment and displace countless communities, especially rural peasant and Indigenous peoples. Behind this is the U.S.' hunger for global dominance over critical minerals to compete with China in the semiconductor and AI industries alike.
And just as it did with oil, the U.S. will lead the Philippines and other resource-rich countries straight into the crosshairs of war. Trump will not stop short of complete domination of the Philippines, while Marcos plays his faithful lapdog to ensure U.S. imperialist interests are met, viciously unleashing the Philippine military, police, and other state agents against anyone who will oppose them.
Our collective action is ever more critical with this escalation of more outright repression. The attacks happening against us in the Philippines and the U.S. are desperate attempts to stifle a people who will inevitably resist and fight for one another, and for our homeland. Throughout our history, we have proven that our unity of will and action can overpower those who oppress us—be they treacherous heads of state, like the Marcoses, or U.S. imperialism itself.
On the occasion of the 40th People Power Anniversary, let us take to the streets and demonstrate our united strength. Let us be unrelenting in demanding accountability for the crimes committed against us by the U.S.-Marcos regime and fight to end the system that would rather see us dead than free.
