BAYAN USA decries the brutal string of killings and arrests on March 7 against activists in the Southern Tagalog region of the Philippines, which resulted in at least 9 deaths and 6 arrests at the hands of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). We hold President Duterte and his minions in the PNP and AFP wholly accountable, especially General Antonio Parlade Jr., Southern Luzon Commander of the AFP.

Join us in taking action this week to Stop the Attacks! Defend Southern Tagalog!

On Friday, March 12, register your concerns with the Philippine Embassy and Consulates.

Use the resources below to call or email your Philippine government representatives at the Philippine Embassy and Consulates and let them know that you stand with the victims of Duterte’s Bloody Sunday!

My name is [Insert Name], from [insert city or state] and a member of [insert organization if applicable].

I’m calling to register my condemnation about the March 7th “Bloody Sunday” massacre and arrests that the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines launched against activists across the Southern Tagalog region of the Philippines, resulting in the killing of 9 activists, and the arrests of 6 others. This attack came just 2 days after President Duterte ordered the PNP and AFP to “kill” and “finish off” the “communist rebels,” which is a common term used to justify assassinations and to vilify activists, critics, and human rights defenders as “terrorists”.

We urge Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez to demand President Duterte, and the Philippine government free all of those arrested, and that an independent, credible investigation into the simultaneous raids be held by Congress and the Commission on Human Rights, and that those responsible be held to account.

We likewise demand that the Supreme Court take immediate steps to prevent the further weaponization of search warrants and other judicial instruments to silence activists, political dissenters, and government critics.

Finally, we demand that the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 be revoked, and that Lieutenant General Antonio Parlade Jr. be fired as the AFP Southern Luzon Command Chief, and as the spokesman of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) for his blatant, and dangerous tactic of terror-tagging activists, organizations, journalists, and all other government critics.

Thank you.
